We build
things that
outlast
the brief.
Web design, development, hosting, and AI solutions — from a studio in Wisconsin that takes the work seriously and the posturing not at all.
What we
actually do.
Four disciplines. One studio. No handoffs to teams you've never met.
Web Design
Pixels with intent. We start with your actual problem — not the brief, not the mood board, not what your competitor did last year. What we ship looks deliberate because it is. Brand systems, UI/UX, design tokens, everything documented so your next hire doesn't have to reverse-engineer your aesthetic.
Web Development
Production code. Full stop. Not prototype code, not vibe-coded templates, not WordPress with a custom theme that breaks every update. We write code we'd want to maintain. Astro, Next.js, Remix — whatever the job calls for. Every dependency earns its place. Zero orphaned tech debt handed off on day one.
Hosting
Your site, in 300+ cities. We host on Cloudflare's global edge — not because it's trendy, but because sub-50ms globally beats 200ms from a single data center by enough that your bounce rate feels it. Zero cold starts, 99.99% uptime SLA, and deploys that take 30 seconds instead of 30 minutes.
AI Solutions
AI that earns its keep.We integrate language models where they do something useful: intelligent document search, automated content processing, LLM-powered features that actually save someone an hour a week. Not chatbots for chatbot's sake. Not AI washing. Real automation with ROI you can measure.
Selected
projects.
Real work, real results. Placeholder cards are marked — swap in your actual case studies.
Ridgeline Outfitters
Full brand overhaul and e-commerce build for a Wisconsin outdoor gear retailer. Went from Squarespace to a custom Astro storefront in six weeks.
Meridian Law Group
Stripped their site down to what actually converts — clean, authoritative, fast. Organic search traffic up 180% in four months.
Crestwood Properties
Natural language property search on top of their existing listing database. Users describe what they want in plain English; the system finds it.
[Your project here]
We take on two or three new projects per quarter. If you're reading this, there's probably a slot with your name on it.
↑ Placeholder cards — swap in real case studies when ready. See DESIGN_NOTES.md for image slot guidance.
How it
actually works.
Four phases. No sprint ceremonies or daily standups unless you want them. Just the parts that actually move the work forward.
Excavate
We ask uncomfortable questions until we understand your actual goal. Not your stated goal — the one underneath it. What does success look like in six months? What's been tried before and why did it fail? What decision-maker needs to be impressed and what does *they* care about? Discovery isn't overhead. It's the work.
Discovery doc, sitemap draft, tech stack recommendation
Architect
Systems before screens. Typography before buttons. Information hierarchy before color. We build the design system first — tokens, spacing scale, type scale, component language — so every subsequent decision has a foundation. Nothing decorative that isn't load-bearing.
Design system, wireframes, component inventory, content model
Build
We write the code we'd want to maintain. Every file has a reason to exist. Every component is composable. We stage weekly, review together, and ship nothing we haven't QA'd at real world sizes on real devices. No 'we'll fix it after launch' conversations.
Staging environment, weekly reviews, test coverage, documentation
Deploy
We ship to the edge, not just a server. DNS, SSL, CDN config, performance audit, accessibility audit, analytics — all handled. You get a brief handoff session and a document explaining every part of what was built. Then we're available for a month of post-launch support.
Production deploy, performance report, handoff session, 30-day support
The studio
behind it.
I started Cliff Edge because I kept watching good businesses settle for mediocre websites — not because they didn't care, but because the agencies they hired charged a lot and delivered little. Cookie-cutter templates, bloated code, and a handoff doc nobody reads. I've been building on the web for over a decade and I know exactly what corners get cut when a project goes sideways. Cliff Edge exists so that doesn't happen to you.
I work directly with every client — no account managers, no junior handoffs, no surprises. If something ships under the Cliff Edge name, I built it and I stand behind it. I turn down projects that don't need what I actually do well, and I'll tell you when a simpler solution is the right one, even if that means less work for me.
Cliff Edge operates out of the Northwoods of Wisconsin. We work with clients across the country who've figured out that geography stopped mattering about fifteen years ago.
